Have a cracked EGR pipe on my 2002 1.6 FSI, have been quoted around £470 for part and labour - is that reasonable? They tried to look at some kind of patch repair, but need to get it out to do it so might as well replace.
It is fairly easy and straightforward but you have to keep taking things off the intake path until you can actually the bolts. You also have to take out the high-pressure fuel pump which is only 3 bolts.
All in all nothing major. Most likely the bolts holding it in place are seized in. I had to chisel them out. They are also a triple-square head if memory serves me right. I replaced them will hex in the end.
The pipe you can weld. Replacing with a used one might be false economy unless in pretty decent condition.
