My A2 "Top spec" project (AKA my Holy Grail)

Like I said earlier, I've seen the car, it's real.

Steve, I'm ~1 hour south of Tom in Cheshire. On Sunday I'm driving to Caernarfon and back myself. If anything goes awry and I'm near, I'll gladly help if I can. Maybe we could set up a convoy, or even use CB radios like Smokey and the Bandit?

1st June - Finally get my hands on the car!!! Up to Lancaster and shake Tom's (Timmus) hand for the excellent help so far

It's all prepared for you, Steve. I've just given it a good clean and have parked it somewhere where it's not likely to get grot rained onto it by sycamore trees... which isn't easy where I live!

16th June - off to Vince at Stealth, to have the 6 speed kit and new clutch fitted and a custom remap

Are you having the clutch replaced simply because the gearbox will be coming out? The car's only done 64k miles and isn't in need of a new clutch, though I understand why you might wish to change it anyway. Whilst you're at Stealth, I'd get the wheel alignment checked and have Vince inspect the anti-roll bar and bushes.

The pictures will start flowing from Sunday onwards, just in case there are any doubters out there ;)

Pictures will indeed start to flow once Steve's clapped his eyes on his new toy! :)

Cheers,

Tom

Hi,

The tyres arrived and are now fitted to the wheels.

In the photos they look just like the standard 17" 9 Spoke A2 wheels, but you can see just how skinny the tyres are and the effect when they are on the car should be subtle but they should look nice (in my humble opinion) especially when that contrasts against a deep black paint job.

happy motoring, sounds like a busy road trip, looking forward to the unveiling, been keeping silent in the background on this project, but like your last one has me addicted.

Stunning wheels Steve, can't wait to see them on your A2 .

Hi Tom,
it is only because the box will be off anyway and the remap will put a tad more torque through it, so i thought why not?
Thanks for the suggestion about the alignment/bushes etc.

see you around 9am Sunday, if that is not too early?

Cheers

Lovely wheels and tyres Steve

This thread is just getting better everytime I come here to read it, can't wait to see it on here!

Enjoy your ride out

On the train to Lancaster !!! an overnight stay and then off to collect the car.

The wifi on Virgin trains is RUBBISH !!!

Just posted a response to a thread and ended up with it in triplicate, it then took 6 attempts to clean it up.

Switched to using the iPhone as a hot spot and now at least able to post !!!

I want to slightly uprate the brakes, converting the rear drums to discs (mainly for appearance (sorry!))

Anyone any experience of this with any advice?

I like the cross drilled and grooved discs ideally, because the discs are very visible through the wheels.

Good luck picking the car up today Steve. I hope you are delighted even if your pockets a bit lighter on the way home!

Have you joined a2frende? I don't recall anyone on here doing the drum to disc modification, but to parrot Bret's mantra  'It's been done on the German site' - so that's maybe worth a search.

Only slight negative to either the disc or drum configuration is that either set of components will look like toys behind those big rims. I agree that the cross drilled and grooved discs will look cracking. Saw an FSi Sport with these recently and it works well to accentuate the sporty look.

We have a car booked in for a big upgrade in the next 10 days. It includes a complete suspension rebuild and also a brake upgrade to ATE PowerDiscs. Also, we will be changing the rear drums to discs.

This, any many more upgrade paths are now becoming available at our new workshop watch this space!

Steve, you have a PM.

Hi Tony

No PM has arrived. It must be awaiting release somewhere.
Perhaps it is because you are using a new account?
