My plan to save A2’s

Hi All.
I also wish you the best of luck Louis in your rescue plan. A thought if this isn't a registered business, if you were to register the car in your name before you sell on wouldn't this then be classed as a private sale? And would then be covered under the usual sold as seen and test driven to buyers satisfaction?

My tuppence worth...........

I admire what you're trying to do but repairing fsi's is for those with some technical ability and knowing all the potential faults and what is needed in terms of a strip down to repair them. Being in this forum you would have by now gleaned all that is to be known about the potential faults and remedies so that's a huge positive or at least should be.

IMO stick to selling 6 cars per year!! That way you will not need all the phaff mentioned in previous posts with offering warranties liability etc etc ect. By all means get them repaired properly but like all private sales it's 'caveat emptor'

By the way don't use after market death pipes they don't fit as well or are as good as the Audi item! Happy to sell mine i bought to anyone who disagrees with me but i wouldn't by another one!

The 6 cars per year thing is a myth. If you are buying and selling cars for the purposes of making a profit you’ll have a hard time convincing HMRC that you are not a business and therefore liable for paying tax on the income.

Not sure where you would stand on paying tax as a minor mind you. Perhaps you could mad for the next 2 years and make as much as possible before reaching adulthood ?

Glad to see you think my post is phaff……........its just a little advice to perhaps point out the pitfalls of car dealing, from what I read of the original post Louis was going to buy as many A2's as he could repair them and sell them on...………...that to me is the idea of being a car dealer, all be it in one model only...………...There are obviously some things that need considering before under taking such a project and I thought that by pointing them out it would be of some help...............................................Obviously not!!...............
In future I feel im going to take a less active role in replies on the forum ................................some obviously some know better and much much more about things than others.

I don’t think they were implying your comment was phaff but the process you were describing would be a lot of hassle, and then pointing out that maybe a smaller enterprise would be an easier adventure. No need to be offended.

Well it's aloud mate :D it's the law! Nothing to stop anyone buying a car and owning it and making a profit on it, although i doubt Louis will make much on each car. As long as he doesn't sell more than 6 cars a year he's fine. Just trying to point out to Louis what he can and can't do.

And in any case, who's going to prove Louis is trying to save 6 x A2's a year and sell on for a small profit? People out there should be more worried about our hugely corrupt politicians massively ripping of the public than if someone makes a couple of quid on a few cars.

Thankyou precisely correct! I'm mearly saying Phaff as it would be such an ache to sell cars as a trader and be openly allowing yourself to be ruined in case of any mistake in this litigious society we live in.

Maybe start with something like the 1.4i as these are quite simply however can have some expensive problems, but generally simple to fix.

Maybe with a few breakers and a lot of time and energy it would be possible to make some money, but generally I would aim at the highest end of the market for these to be in for a chance.

I think everyone is making excellent comments including Kernow ( and understand why he is a bit miffed). Its a minefield. I can't help but look at the various project cars that appear on the site from time to time. They all look great and have huge amounts of time, effort and no little money to get them to a stage that we would all want them. Trouble is, few people seem to want to pay the asking price. They appear to hang around and gradually be priced dropped. I am sure the guys that do it (you know who you are) may reluctantly agree with me. I'm not saying I'm right and others are wrong, but your project cars, in my opinion, need either an owner who has some love for the car or maybe you take commissions so the car is bespoke and more importantly a customer and agreed price at the end. As all the others have said "good luck" and every year when my car goes for an MOT I get nearer to being a customer.

If you sell under the banner of a club or group of aficionados, like this forum for instance then there would be some sort of stamp of approval implied. Are you sure your cars will meet the standards? I don't mean shiny or "with all mod cons, a great deal" I mean will you point out the bad bits. I don't mind a project.... I do mind a surprise. As a club member (all be it new one) I'd want to know all the little faults, what's wrong with the car and so on. I bought Ruby from you and I'm not overly impressed. I think you have to up your game.

Louis, I hope you'll be taking on board the comments that Ruby's buyer left in this thread, and beyond sorting matters out with him, that you'll take greater care to ensure that your adverts don't overstate the condition of the cars you sell.

I think was it moderated? It’s now gone?

Can one of the mods please explain why there are thread posts possibly missing and the reason why they may have been removed?
Not wanting to cause any offence but shouldn't members have the right to make up their own minds on any content posted...…......or is this a nanny state?

Any one here can delete their own posts at any time, and that may well be what happened here.
