Afternoon all,

This afternoon see a little adjustment in OEMs luggage space. This recent addition was removed:

And this Twist replacement was put in its place:

Now where to put the Soul item?

Kind regards,

🤣because you’ve not enough A2’s to find a home fit it! I’m sure Project 250 will look fabulous with it in, 😊👍
Afternoon Erling,

Back up to 4 on the driveway again with the family member who was buying Project RN53 going quiet on me for a couple of weeks.

Yep, you read my mind Sir. Almost looks hidden away in the Soul interior of Project 250.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

It’s been a couple of months since adding to this thread. Today I removed 2 smaller type items to improve the interior.

First up was the mirror toggle switch.

Nothing wrong with the function of this but thought I’d prefer the aluminium (painted) 4F0 style. Here’s what I purchased a few days ago:

327E4A39-7582-4E16-8DFD-4EE6735BA1E8.jpeg

It was originally priced at £12.00 along with free postage but tried a cheeky £10.00 offer which was accepted. Here are a couple of the listings pictures:

And here it is fitted:

F9D9A895-2F7F-47E3-8C31-A46042C90823.jpeg

Much better in my eyes and happy to have this look with yet another genuine Audi item, albeit not from an A2.

Next up was over to the passengers door card which was looking rather unhappy until I removed this:

1C95C638-CECA-4D10-9DCA-24B25BEA2A74.jpeg

Then fitted a shiny Hard Touch item I received from Steve @A2Steve some months ago.

Looking a lot tidier now:

Not much else has been added to this special A2 recently as it’s pretty much the way I intended it to. It of course still needs a Votex Kit fitting but that’ll happen in time, no rush right now.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

It's been a month since posting on this thread and I've been reluctant to do so as I have avoided doing anything to this awesome daily due to it having a potential head gasket issue. For a few months I have been adding coolant every week or two and had been unable to locate a leak so assumed the very worst. Having continued to look for a leak each time the bonnet was removed to top up the coolant reservoir didn't end well, so again thought the worst.

Recently though it was noticed that the top of the gearbox was a little damp which wasn't right at all as the drainage cups are in place and unblocked so got the torch out. After 10 minutes of getting my head into the engine Bay as best I could, I see the top of a coolant hose on the coolant union/manifold was wet. Replacement union/manifold (not too sure what the item is called) was ordered by the local garage near the office and the work was fitted the following day. A potential four figure garage bill turned out to be a part had failed which only cost £30 to replace, plus a little for labour and a G13 refill. This particular A2 is of course 20 years old with the addition of being just over a week away from joining the 200k Club so expect it to get expensive at some point.

Along with this maintenance, the driveshafts have also recently been replaced with offerings from J&R on eBay:

Near Side (same price I paid)

Off Side (was £70.09 until last week)

These items were purchased and subsequently fitted by Kraig @kraig22 as per this thread. My thanks really do go out to him here for the information in the first place and for the time spent on his driveway. A true gentlemen and community spirited member with a wonderful family who welcomed me into their home. Kraig thank you again for all you have done to keep my daily commuter in a safe and reliable state.

Kind regards,

Tom

Superb result Tom!

If its the housing/coolant connection i am thinking of these can be had from as little £8 for a febi, going to get one ordered!

Hi Howey,

To be honest I never even thought to get a Febi or equivalent part as I know they’ll do the job just fine. As I know the garage near my work use TPS I went for an Audi part, it was probably in a Febi but though cannot confirm this. It certainly pays to shop around.

Even if I do loose coolant due to a failing head gasket, this part had to be changed anyway. It’s such a relief to see the level in the coolant reservoir steady though. I wont lie, it was a massive worry until finally seeing a wet coolant hose.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening all,

Not much to update you all with recently as the upgrades have slowly come to a halt but a few minor tweaks are in the pipeline.

Apart from new driveshafts recently fitted I have also this week fitted new boots on the cast wishbone ball joints to keep them protected along with replacing the non existent rear coil spring lower rubbers.

The main reason why I’m here with you this evening is to announce a milestone that was achieved on the way home not so long ago.

Upon jumping in this glorious A2 in Lincolnshire some 2 hours ago the odometer looked like this:

FC2157FB-C000-4A76-B53B-6BD957DA7390.jpeg

Knowing that the commute home was 62 miles meant that I have to drive the local to home roads to clock up the deficit few miles to enter the 200K Miles Club. Here’s the odometer just outside @bleng Towers (sorry Ben I should have popped in for a Catch up):

04F51565-F811-4A10-8034-04DCC7D44D13.jpeg

And finally parked up at 2work Towers a few minutes later:

344033DE-3DA2-4518-93C2-7BC8EA31F37D.jpeg

It really has taken a while to get to this mileage. The odometer read something around 168k when I purchased it from Bob @Jellybean a few weeks for the initial lockdown and haven’t done much of my usual 24-27k annual mileage since then. As things are pretty much back to normal, of course my mileage is starting to clock up again.

Here’s to the next 100k miles around Autumn 2026.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

A great start to the day here in Coalville:

Another successful MOT without advisories. So impressed with how this A2 has become since it’s purchase. It’s certainly the most economical car I’ve ever owned, well that’s if you disregard all the retrofit and upgrades I’ve completed the last 2.5 years. So glad I chose the TDI after the demise of my original BBY commuter.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning Mandy,

Missed that but happy enough as I’m about to put the winter Pepperpots on. Should have done it last week when the temperatures dramatically dropped.

Must be more observant, maybe a New Years Resolution.

Kind regards,

Tom

I had the same on Frankie, just annoyed we didn't change wheels before MOT then he would have had nice clean MOT.

Evening all,

Whilst my time and attention has been dedicated to Project PDK I thought I’d quickly add something to this wonderful commuter which has recently been handed over to the other driver here.

I’m sure you’ll recall me adding this item a while ago:

692DC0FD-E6E5-42B2-AC0D-3BED7D4D0AEB.jpeg

Which looks just right fitted:

Well I’ve had a parcel here for a few days now which I’ve not had time to open and inspect. The contents is one of these:

B9DF919B-BB6F-4507-8E51-C7B42EB9FB4B.jpeg

It cleaned up nicely and correctly fits into the A2 fascia:

Here it is ready to fit into my old faithful commuter:

65972BA7-AC4B-4210-9890-EF515C520D2A.jpeg

The switches aren’t as long as the factory A2 switches but they do look better if you like the bling of the chrome tips.

I’ve actually been wanting to fit these buttons for a couple of years but just never got round to purchasing any. They can be quite costly when they are available. Now need to get 3 genuine single chrome tipped switches.

Kind regards,

Tom

I’ve been searching for these too, made a little harder finding a front only switch. Anyway, these may be good for you if you can use a 4 way switch in one of the other cars.

Evening Steve,

I actually have these in my watchlist Sir. Hoping to slowly come by 3 genuine single switches on budget. I do think these are a good aftermarket substitute though, the price is certainly good.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening all,

Its been a while since I tinkered with my old commuter since handing it over to the other driver here. From the last couple of posts its evident that I owe you some pictures of the chrome tipped window switches that are now fitted; I'll get to that later this week. For now though, I have just been out to update the RNS-E PU to that of the very latest iteration of BETA Custom Firmware:

Screenshot 2023-04-23 at 19.48.34.png

Also of course added the newest viewable feature which is the Radio Station Art:

As mentioned on the Project EUD thread, utterly astonished at what has been enabled here by Stuart for the Audi Navigation Plus user-community, such dedication.

I'll try to add more posts to this thread in the coming weeks once I've finished all the retrofits on a certain Jaipur Red A2!

Kind regards,

Tom
