Recommendations on a 7 Seater under 5K

The last time i was a petrol head was when i had my convertible Peugeot 205 GTI...20 years ago!

I'm a diesel man, as i've never had any engine problems in any cars i've had. That said, i would probably go down the route of hybrid/electric or pure electric when prices are more affordable and have better range!

Maybe i'll just go out and buy a 2 seater and tell my wife i'm hitting early mid life crisis lol

Just to go against the flow of this thread completely we have had a Galaxy and now have an S-Max as our family transport.
We opted for a manual turbo petrol engine due to the nature of our regular journeys.
We have racked up just over 100K miles in 7 years with no costs other than tyres and discs/pads.
We have three kids between 7 and 11 and it copes admirably with everything we throw at it and miraculously still looks remarkably good considering it’s age and ‘use’!!
Considered an S Max before opting for a Beemer Gran Tourer. Great reviews but sheesh they were pricey at the nearly new point and that put me off. Sorry veering off topic a bit. Agree they are a sound option. I have valeted a 58 plate S Max for a friend. Low miles. My issue with the blue oval is and always has been rust. The door seams on said 58 plate were starting to go.

Haha...been there and done that...even I realised that a 2 seater was a bit too impractical for a second car with kids lol

I have foreseen the outcome on this... a soon to follow divorce and the loss of assets to the Mrs where she would end up with the 2 seater driving up/down the street with her new bloke in it, which would be followed by me ending up in Jail having torched it ;)

The search continues.....i might have more chance of finding Spock! than the car i want lol

Honestly the sharan and Alhambra are great cars, the engines are good, my approach has been to find the most basic one possible as it will get a lot of use and I aim in keeping it for 10 years

Bit excessive maybe? ?
My eventual realisation that a two seater wasn’t the most practical (on top of the £58 Road Tax cost!) led me back to an A2...so worked out for me lol

Bit excessive maybe? ?
Or the flip side of that could be doing a Thelma and Louise ending :)

All joking aside it's really time consuming and eye ball burning with all this. I will report back when i see something else thats worth considering. I won't be leaving the forum for sometime yet but i will be selling the wife's once i have the replacement.

Update...

I've seen this advert on ebay...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEAT-Alh...986265?hash=item2658f19b99:g:wpYAAOSwSVhgJzaZ

Should i be worried with an advert like this? I did reply and ask him to provide photos and he did along with an explanation of the car. I have asked him for his mobile so i can speak to him in person. I did notice that other cars are listed with different emails under this sellers name and haven't seen this type of selling on ebay. Is this a new way to scam people or just a different approach without being charged fees or something else?

Confused

Err...yes

They will probably suggest that money is transferred into an escrow account and the car can be delivered to you to check over etc...

I think it’s most likely either a scam, or at best a way to move a defective car.

This is a very common scam now. The sellers account has been hacked and the ads are copies from previous ebay ads. They will ask for a deposit or even offer to deliver. You loose All your money. They operate from abroad mainly. I've noticed these ads flood eBay on Friday night's as there are less staff working at ebay to remove them over the weekends. Beware!
Tips to tell
Look at other items for sale. There will be lots of cars, pics taken at different locations.
The pic of the contact details is in the ad.
It's cheap.
Ask where they are? Say you live in the same town and would like to view now.

Spoke to someone today at this garage who is trying to work out something in regards to delivery. What do you guys think?

The only downside for me is the cloth seats and not leather :( not a deal breaker but this seems a good price and spec! was still considering the VW Sharan above but with the slightly higher miles and body work not as good, what would your preference be?

Is there an app that checks a full spec list of a car?

Our Alhambra (11 plate) has the same interior. I was initially looking for leather or dark coloured seats - however since owning this one, I must say I like the lighter grey trim a lot. It is extremely practical in terms of being able to wash/ scrub it without worrying about fading the colour. It also does not show dusty little footprints when the children climb all over the seats (I discovered this as I had an A4 B6 with dark cloth seats that ended up with lots of said dusty footprints all over it especially if you park in a stone chipping covered area in the summer time.)
Ours is at ~127K so far.

Thanks John, does yours have a sunroof and would this be a deal breaker for you?

Looks like it might be a buyer for me if we can work out delivery :/

Ours doesn't have a sunroof, at the time we were buying (2012) I think there was a total of 4 of the new shape Alhambras/ Sharans for sale in the local used car market so I didn't have a lot of choice. I did see a nice demo SEL with all the toys including panoramic roof in a dealership but it was out of our price range.
I replaced the standard head unit (RCD310) with one of the RCD510 units that had BT phone and reverse camera support (the model numbers are from memory). I never retrofitted the camera after all . The one you linked to seems to have a few nice toys like the head unit and reverse camera already installed. Ours is manual transmission, although I did buy a DSG Touran in late 2019 and the autobox is handy.
As to whether having no pano-roof now would be a deal breaker - well I had one of those on my wish list for the Touran (as well as the xenon/led drl lights).... ended up with one with neither as a car came along that seemed right for me..
In saying that, next time we change the Alhambra I will probably add the pano roof to the wish list, I had one in a CRV a few years back and liked it. My Mrs doesn't give a damn as long as it goes from A to B :) and she is the main driver of the Alhambra so not a deal breaker here.

here are some more detailed photos of car.

i'm being offered the car for £5250 if i collect myself or i need to pay an extra £250 for delivery on top of asking price £5500, which will be £5750 in total.

What’s the warranty on offer for that price? Service history complete and on schedule from a main dealer?
