Well if nothing else, we are all entitled to a difference of opinion.
I can see both sides of the coin here, if you're unconvinced of the difference cables make then so be it. I for one have noticed a difference with budget cables compared to some hand-made for me by a sound engineer many years ago.

It's not dissimilar to feeling a cars driving dynamics or even the fuel we prefer to use, some people notice a difference and some don't.

Agree the engineers amoungst us usually feel these things. ?

Let's be honest, the kit supplied with most sources, the little bits of bell-wire with red and white moulded plastic plugs on the end, that's trash and should only ever go in the recycling.

That isn't budget kit, it's free kit.

Stuff like QED analogue interconnects which cost around £25 upwards are about as much as you need to spend. After around £50 for a 1m interconnect, the law of diminishing returns sets in with a vengeance.

I would challenge anyone to tell the difference in a blind test between a £25 cable and a £200 cable. Most of the fluff around high priced interconnects is there to sell kit and to then assuage the other half when she (or he, in these politically correct times) sees how much that piece of wire cost.

On a separate note, also from post #58, is your LED still going from that PF disc? Possibly the finest recording ever made of Comfortably Numb.

I agree with the others it’s probaly time to say enough ..but where I will agree what hi fi is a comic it’s targeted as you have stated at people with an average system to spend big on items you have described that will make no discernible difference..I’m talking high end ..but back to what hi fi I know a little of aledgidly how they work if you spent big on advertising the reviews where supposedly great ??.. hi fi news and stetophile are in a different league as per the two names I quoted who write for them in fact ken is the editor very knowledgeable and down to earth guy as is Martin ..

But all magazines rely on adverts for their income, in addition to the public buying the mag also. Hence, you'll find adverts for Kemble and Russ Andrews in such magazines, and then they'll say that a mains block costing £400 is a worthy upgrade. It's not. The average reader would be better off getting a hearing test and/or getting their ears syringed.

Don't believe the hype is a very overused, but under-adhered to saying. When you factor in the average household noises, wind whistling, outside traffic noise and so on, there really is no advantage to such expensive interconnects.

No that expired years ago. Imho you can't beat a bit of the floyd and comfortably numb is right up there, that we can agree on. ;)?
We can indeed.

And then there's the 40th anniversary release of In the Court of the Crimson King. And another favourite is The Man Who Sold The World. Early 70's recordings were in a different league to any other era.

I think where what hifi is concerned it might be the case ;) wink wink that their paid to promote certain items. Some of it is good even exceptional at price point or even no price point. Their reference system in the mid nineties all the way until early 2000's was MA's Studio 20se floor standers a truly exceptional transducer with the right amps which were partnered with 4 x Audiolab power amps as well as the CDM and the DAX. I have kept quite A few of my old Hifi mags, Hi-Fi Choice glad i did as it's a lovey reference to have.I still have a couple What hifi ultimate guides when they would bring all the best stuff together in one mag, I've got one here in hand from 1998. It makes good reading bit of course for the truly esoteric stuff like your amps no chance it would appear in what hifi.

My view of the Match of the Day studio - the speakers don't show up too well, but they're Genelec 1037C's which are triamped and are around £3k each. We have 5 in this particular room.

The desk is a Calrec Apollo and runs at around £250k, give or take a bit.

Have a listen to the dynamic range of this tape recording from 60 years ago. you want 9.30 to 10.55 and 10.55 where the diesel locomotive engine kicks in.

I wish ide kept lots of mags but a big clear out and that was that ..but it’s been nice reminiscing I’ve enjoyed it ..

My main system is fully wired using DPA Black Slink as both interconnect and speaker cable: Goretex insulation; two pairs of solid-core silver-plated copper wire in Goretex per channel. Deliberately non-directional – cores were drawn off the reel and laid-up in alternating directions! Overall shield with drain wire, covered in black polyurethane. £300/m in1994!

Cool stuff love a bit of silver cable in the right places, I've got some in the tonearm on my deck. I had sneaky feeling this thread would bring out some interesting results as the A2 seams to pick it's owners rather than the other way round if you get my meaning. ;)
