Today I.....

... fitted the new camshaft position sensor to our Cobalt TDI. A joyfully straightforward task taking 25 minutes from bonnet off to bonnet on. If only all jobs were so pleasant, it didn't even rain. Off to buy a lottery ticket, my luck is obviously on. :D

Eventually got around to fitting the front aero wing lets i purchased from @stevea2. Didn't realize i was missing soo many clips to hold up engine undertray. All done now tho.

So today

I got stuck into “Egg”’which managed to set fire to himself a couple of weeks ago .

Managed to replace the melted windscreen washer bottle , bonnet drain cup and hose , rubber AC Pipes . The wiring loom was total roasted around the starter motor , and required a fair amount of “thinking “ to repair it to a suitable standard, I even managed to find the Audi loom tape ....
A big thanks the chaps at Wom autos for supplying a very hard to obtain part, and a listening ear for me to voice my method of repairs

... drove my six speed TDi75 for the first time. It was only a couple of miles home so not the full experience, but the gears feel slightly different and it took a few minutes getting used to, but apart from that all seems fine. I now have the MYP conversion, so nice and straightforward with the benefit of a brand new LUK clutch, which wasn't actually needed, but seemed daft not to do at the same time, considering the original has done something like 178K.

MYP has a shorter throw gearchange which is nice, but still not as smooth as the gearchange on 1.4 and FSI.

Today I finished day 2 of cleaning/polishing my R32 :)

(sorry it's not A2 content!)
Another fellow .:R32 owner albeit a Mk4
I'm in the middle of my spring detail after coming out of hibernation for the winter.
Whats your procedure for what looks a good deep shine?

Mines usually Poorboys black hole followed by chemical guys jetseal 109 followed by a few coats of collinite 915 marque d'elegance.

Just had the blackhole applied

Are you on the R32 owners forum?

@dodders That looks a lovely example, I do love the MK4 body :)

I'll put my process in a spoiler tag as it's quite lengthy. I plan to do a full correction on the paintwork a little later this year.

Bilt Hamber wheel cleaner
Bilt Hamber snow foam
Full 2 bucket wash, dry, followed by Bilt Hamber clay
Rinse & wash/dry
Auto Glym Super Resin Polish
Collinite 915
Meguiars Ceramic Hybrid Wax
Meguiars Endurance tyre gel
Aerospace 303 on all black trims, including the engine bay, after agitating with Meguiars APC
Auto Glym Fast Glass

Looking to start experimenting with some ceramic coating starting with wheels when I have them refurbished (my A2 wheels will also be receiving this treatment once done)

I am on R32OC (same user name) and I have a thread on the car but it's a bit quiet on there, not much of a community feel like on here :)

By the way, well done for putting a few coats on 915 on the car, after one coat my arm is dead from buffing!!

Similar to my process but never tried the 303 might need to try that..
I've been a member on the R32oc for 11 years and it was very similar community feel to this one ,plenty of meets etc 50+ posts a day and then the owner sold to a Canadian company that has just left the forum to rot(no forum maintenance etc) and members have drifted away probably to faceache....just hope this OC doesn't go the same way its good to read multilple posts per day rather than spending my time deleting spam.
anyway rant over lol.
Would be interested in your finding on ceramic coating.
I find dampning the microfibre pad and only adding a smear to the panels makes buffing far easier and don't let it dry to

Having used this fuel additive/catalyst cleaner on my daughter's 1.0 up and been impressed by the results. Today i decided to use it on my A2 tdi 75 bhp. Although happy with performance and mpg from my A2, for £15 i thought wth. Anyways as per up performance the A2 feels more responsive and revs cleaner. Early results are, as per up, very encouraging. So far the CATACLEAN product is doing what it says it should/can.

303 is great as a sealant, it's also got UV protection.

I'll be trying ceramic coating on the glass first, this week. I had forgotten I ordered a few things the other day, Gtechniq G1 kit and C4 trim restorer so I'll report back :) Thanks for the tip with Collinite application, I'll give that a go next time.

yesterday and today I produced the first batch of Mk2 Diesel fuel filter drain screws.
I few months ago I bought a CNC milling machine to accompany my recently converted to CNC Boxford lathe.
This now means that I have the means to mill an hex onto the end of the drain screw instead of the 3D printed Hex that I have been using to date. I have also engraved directly into the aluminium hex the tightening torque (2.5NM)
There is no change to fit, form or function so no need to upgrade from the Mk1 to the Mk2

The Mk1 version of the screw is top right

...Replaced the starter motor on my 1.4 Petrol Sport, so now it doesn't make a noise like a lady tennis player at Wimbledon, and cause people to turn round to look. I'm impressed with the new refinement.

While the mechanic was at it, I asked him to knock himself out with the angle-grinder (as long as he didn't damage the mountings on the car), and set free the left-side back seat which has been jammed solid since before I had the car. (Quite a long time before, judging from the tide-line of grunge, and previous owner had obviously been desperate enough to crack the backrest release, so had probably taken a tyre iron to it). The seat's at the tip in quite a few pieces, and I'm free to move on.

Male tennis players can also make funny noises ;)

Just got through retrofitting the parking sensors on the rear bumper. Just before the rain started. Worked a treat. Which is more than I can say for my soldering. But still, it works.

After getting a rescue staffy a couple of months ago and moving to Margate pretty much just in the little car it needs a bloody good clean before I start doing other little bits.

Wednesday it’s booked in for a new clutch from a garage that the owner drinks at my local. £300 all in. Which I don’t think is too bad.

Then service and exterior clean up of the paintwork and wheels!
