Today I.....

I’m sure the answer is on the forum somewhere but do I remember right that the plastic cage was eliminated by the design of the newer filter? Or is my memory playing up?
Indeed, although surprisingly the plastic cage was ok in mine, its the bit of trim that covers it underneath that's missing. Not critical but annoying now I know it isn't there 😂

Had a visit from @Phillb and together we managed to fit the whole interior of an A2 into the back of an A2. And I mean EVERYTHING

Was also nice to meet @Erlingtheelder @Erlingtheyounger ’s mum and Dad. I now see that Erling the younger is a direct mix of the 2 😊

It’ll be grand I’m sure. No better way than getting to know your car properly than taking it apart!!! 🤣

Good luck! Post any tricky bits, and before and after shots!

washed the A2 today, then washed the Superb and washed & waxed the S-Cross. 2 hours of work... really nice to have a bug-free warm and dry space with a decent pressure washer :) Shame it rained immediately afterwards, but it never was for the looks.
Oh, and the A2's cups under the bonnet were full of crud. Lifted the bonnet off and another 5l of water came out... and then lots of nice junk at the bottom. They're clear again now, will have to monitor this.

Today I.. got my tires changed at a professional garage - while the experience was less than pleasant with some damage done to the right hand side plastic sideskirt , at least the new tires feel a bit less like they're made of wood.

Changed were old Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s (5-6mm of tread left after 7 years/30000 miles) for the new Asymmetric 6s with at least one pleasant surprise - they came pre-painted for A2 Colour Storms 🤡

Sorted out my rear number plate lights. I have been spraying the badly rusted screws with WD40 for a couple of weeks now. I could see that not only were the screws badly rusted but the clear lenses had been damaged by this so managed to find new replacements from carparts4less for £30 the pair. Also got some marine grade stainless screw.

So I did mange to get them out just. Before an after below

Did my first job on my new car. More for safety than anything. The headlights were horribly foggy so set about them with sandpaper and polisher. Came out great.
Then investigated why the maf was held up by a sponge, someone had taken out the mounting bolt in the bracket so it just rattled on top of the engine, so obviously a sponge was the correct 'fix'. Now fixed properly.
And the final one for today was to reach down into the engines guts to reattach the end of the webasto heater exhaust to the pipe that goes out the bottom. This would explain why exhaust fumes were ending up in the cabin as it the exhaust was just hanging around the engine bay and getting drawn in. Hopefully not any more!

Makes a huge difference the lights, nice colour islands green isn't it? The webasto should be dormant until cold starting around sub7 deg c. So if you had fumes above that temp it will be something else, check egr next, try and look inside by removing asv and intake pipes. The cabin air intake sits above the egr

It went off a couple of mornings ago when i had an early start, must have been borderline air temp. Ill wait until October to give it another test 😂

Got another couple of jobs checked off the list on the FSI I’m fixing up.

I must say that it does feel rather strange putting bits on an FSI rather than stripping them off 😊

- Replacement scuttle panel fitted replacing one that was cracked,
- New pipe fitted to the drivers washerjet,
- replaced the air ducting to the cabin that some monkey had snapped off to get access when replacing the lower manifold
- replacement aero wiper arm that was in much better condition

And an added bonus in the process discovered that the car also has the rest of the winter pack with heated washerjets and mirrors.

Great job on the headlights.

Exhaust fumes in the cabin is very unlikely to be the webasto exhaust. It wouldn’t be cold enough for it to kick in. Exhaust fumes in the cabin are usually from a crack in the exhaust flexi. It’s quite common on the TDI if the dogbone mount has been left to wear as there’s quite a lot of movement and vibration on the little 3 pot.

Today James and Billy paid us a visit. It was lovely to see them both and two cracking storms together.
