What a fantastic story. A testament to the gentleman who bought it, stored it, cared for it and past it on, knowing it would be treated right.
It would be worthy of an article in the motoring press but I can quite understand that those involved might not want the publicity.

Definitely not.
The vendors wife wants no publicity at all, and I don’t even like having a photo taken!

It might be worth trying Adrian Flux. They do insurance for a lot of the historic racing people, and seem to specialise in the "weird and wonderful"

Not associated with them at all, only insure with them.

Two thoughts just out of interest good people. Which unicorn would be worth more. The 1.6 FSi or 1.4 TDi 75/90 all identical spec and year?
Secondly is there indeed another unicorn. A 1.6 FSi with over 250k Miles with zero (and I mean zero) work on its over unit. That's not a smug question as I'm seriously intrigued as well as seriously miffed I missed a sniff at this one. If circumstances ever change please please post pics you lucky person.

Well spotted Andy!

Yes, it's mine!
I didn't find it, it found me.
I've bought it off an old friend in his last few weeks of life (he had terminal cancer), who offered it to me six weeks ago.
He was a salesman and part owner of an Audi main dealer franchise in the north west.
He bought the car as a replacement for his original 1.6 Fsi for when it became no longer viable to maintain/repair or in the event of it being written off as in his words "It's my perfect car", so it was his next "new" car. This was someone who had a company Audi, one of the latest models every few months, but still preferred his A2.
He's sold it to me on the proviso it won't be "stuffed and mounted" or be a "Garage Queen" but used as a normal car would be. It was bought and stored to be used in the future and that's what's happening to respect his wishes.
It's going into his dealership the last week in February for tyres (it was delivered on 4 steel wheels, with the alloys supplied unshod), full service, brake fluid/hoses changed, cambelt/water pump etc., and anything else they find that would be better renewed, all using genuine parts. They have 2 long serving mechanics who are very familiar with the A2.
It will be registered on 1st March on a 21 plate - one of his colleagues is going to attempt the purchase from DVLA of one of 2 "ideal" numbers when they come up for sale in November.
It's currently in private storage on 4 modified axle stands that had locating pins fitted to seat in the 4 post lift points, in an air conditioned environment, still all in the protective delivery materials. Because of the location it's stored in I wasn't allowed to take photos, for security purposes, but there will be plenty posted from the moment it's loaded onto the transporter in late February.
The car is Mauritius Blue with black interior, black heated/lumbar leather sports seats, OSS and just about every other option on the list (including factory fitted cruise control, Bose, DIS and rear electric windows, so Timmus's services won't be required) .
The only "upgrade" I'm making will be to fit an RNS-E, but that's completely removable without trace should the need arise, as it's already a double din dash.

I've already turned down an offer of £30K for it!

Cheers
Ian
You go Ian! Well done.

Yes - certain parts of the market have gone mad. Think it is the case that people with a large bank balance can't earn much off regular investment so see the classic car market as a financial investment. Not sure about any upside from £45k on this though. Not that the owner is going to sell it anyway.

Hi.
Well if it was me, it would depend on where the car was going to. If it was going to a private collector to 'dissappear in their collection' i would deffo say no and honour my word. But if it was to go to a museum, wouldn't that be a nice story to be told to the outside community. It would also be a fitting tribute to a person, who had a long term vision on the joys of owning not one but two a2's. As you said his wife wouldn't want any publicity, but you could do a dragnet and change the names to protect the innocent.
Steve
