Well spotted Andy!

Yes, it's mine!
I didn't find it, it found me.
I've bought it off an old friend in his last few weeks of life (he had terminal cancer), who offered it to me six weeks ago.
He was a salesman and part owner of an Audi main dealer franchise in the north west.
He bought the car as a replacement for his original 1.6 Fsi for when it became no longer viable to maintain/repair or in the event of it being written off as in his words "It's my perfect car", so it was his next "new" car. This was someone who had a company Audi, one of the latest models every few months, but still preferred his A2.
He's sold it to me on the proviso it won't be "stuffed and mounted" or be a "Garage Queen" but used as a normal car would be. It was bought and stored to be used in the future and that's what's happening to respect his wishes.
It's going into his dealership the last week in February for tyres (it was delivered on 4 steel wheels, with the alloys supplied unshod), full service, brake fluid/hoses changed, cambelt/water pump etc., and anything else they find that would be better renewed, all using genuine parts. They have 2 long serving mechanics who are very familiar with the A2.
It will be registered on 1st March on a 21 plate - one of his colleagues is going to attempt the purchase from DVLA of one of 2 "ideal" numbers when they come up for sale in November.
It's currently in private storage on 4 modified axle stands that had locating pins fitted to seat in the 4 post lift points, in an air conditioned environment, still all in the protective delivery materials. Because of the location it's stored in I wasn't allowed to take photos, for security purposes, but there will be plenty posted from the moment it's loaded onto the transporter in late February.
The car is Mauritius Blue with black interior, black heated/lumbar leather sports seats, OSS and just about every other option on the list (including factory fitted cruise control, Bose, DIS and rear electric windows, so Timmus's services won't be required) .
The only "upgrade" I'm making will be to fit an RNS-E, but that's completely removable without trace should the need arise, as it's already a double din dash.

I've already turned down an offer of £30K for it!

Cheers
Ian
Having read your story Ian I don’t think you have a choice I would and have felt the same having lost my best mate Last year with same horrendous disease and on his birthday ..? I would without doubt keep my word ...it puts a whole new picture on what you should do ..sounded a really nice guy and it sounds like he found the right person for it ..enjoy ?

Its been a struggle to keep this quiet for the last few weeks since Ian told me of the purchase.
It is indeed a unique find, just a great pity of the circumstances in which it has come Ian's way, however I'm sure its in very good hands and will be used as his sadly departed friend would have wanted.

Chuffed for you Ian

Hi all,

I don’t want to spoil this thread but what do you think of soft red led-lit doorhandles, footwell and air-outlet controls? At night that’s a comfy and luxurious sight te see and feel.
Although it is not original, I think the interior of our A2 would benefit from the upgrade.
did it .. but not the footwells, I left those white. Will be refitting this in the next month or so, might take some photos.

@Bargepower wow!

Not the ideal circumstance to acquire a car but what an opportunity, I can’t see another one like this turning up! Oh & no standard unleaded for this one

...and yet you were able to, Paul. Good for you ?

PS @Bargepower, in the fullness of time, if you decide to sell the steel wheels, I may be interested to buy
Andrew

@Bargepower although I would always have said use the car anyway as otherwise it’s just a very expensive artwork, knowing you were specifically instructed to enjoy the car removes any guilt I would have had if I were in your shoes.

What a gift, being able to step back in time into a “brand new” A2 - and a FSI too, arguably the pick of the bunch if you can guarantee it won’t go wrong, which in this case you pretty much can!

Questions:

1) Are you planning to keep a blog thread?

2) Have you thought about ProBoost, purely to preserve the plastic cooling system components from the beginning? That would I’m sure ignite debate among members here.

3) And will it have a name?!

1) No. It’s not a project car. I’ll post a few pictures as it’s put on the road and possibly a few comments as I start to use it, but these will just be in the general area of the forum.

2) No. The intention is to keep it stock (for as long as possible anyway)

3) It certainly will. My 1.4 is known as Bluey (‘cos it’s blue). Haven’t decided on a name for the 1.6 yet. May depend on if I get the registration number I’d ideally like.

I’m keeping Bluey which will still be used whenever I’m lugging large parts of A2 round the country so as to keep the interior of the 1.6 in mint condition.
But the 1.6 won’t get used for short commuter trips round London either, but only on decent runs when it’ll be able to stretch its legs.
In fact its first trip will be from the north west, home to London, probably via St Anne’s on the sea to call in on @depronman, if we’re out of lockdown by then, with stops in Leighton Buzzard and Staines I’d imagine.
I can’t really not let @Proghound and @Birchall have a little look!

Nice it’s not going to be used as run around my partners was mint unmarked and I bought it two years ago there are now three marks on the car ( none done by her ) one where somebody reversed with a towbar into the rear bumper two knocks on the doors from obviously supermarket ..it’s why I don’t use mine for those trips .. My point is doesn’t matter how careful us as the owners are there’s always some plonkers and Wallys out there that don’t give a monkeys ..As with many others on here can’t wait to see yours in the flesh .? enjoy ..

A dealer/part franchise owner chose an A2 FSI in Mauritius blue over all other new Audi’s and loved them so much he bought another for when his FSI died which it seems it did not!
As an owner myself of a Mauritius FSI, I raise a glass to gentleman who made this happen.
Many of us don’t get the opportunity to buy a new car but I think most of us wunder what our cars were like when they were brand new, and to have an identical untouched replacement goes to show the love some people have for our A2’s.
To us ?
Phil

Bargepower Ian, congratulations on acquiring this "unicorn". No doubt sad for you to loose a friend but driving the A2 will hopefully bring back good memories of times past. The fact that your friend made such an investment all those years ago when he no doubt had the choice of any Audi, shows his foresight that the A2 was something special. That is something we can all cherish. Enjoy!

`I definitely disagree about it not being used. It’s a wonderful car and should be given the chance to bring joy to the owner. To just exhibit it and look at it it might as well be a sculpture on an A2. Let it live!

Fantastic. Amazing. And on learning the outcome of this cliffhanger I eat my previous words (not that it's any of my business) and the car should be cherished as your late friend intended. Sorry for your loss..
If you're ever heading north to Scotland you've a free detail and a cuppa waiting in Prestwick. ????????

Oh boy do I look forward to that ... thank you Ian, that's much appreciated. Kettle will be on of course, and if you're willing, my camera will be fully charged!

As long as my ugly mug isn’t in any photos, you can take as many as you like. We can even take the bonnet off as it’s got a genuine bonnet cover to protect it!
Looking forward to that.
The last time I saw a brand new A2 was back in 2000 when I bought our first one. That was a very basic TDI. Never did I think that I would still have one 20 years later (and around 15 other A2s in between.

Daft question that none of us probably have ever had to think about with an A2 in the past 15 years - what about running in? You've just said that the first journey will be from 'oop north, but presumably you'll still have to follow the 'don't exceed xxxx rpm for the first xxx miles etc. protocol' - unless I'm completely stuck in the past.

I’ll be following the running in information in the manual, but as I never let a car labour in too high a gear or ever get near the red line I don’t think it’s going to be a problem.
