An OpenSky is reborn!

Nice work of Audi mounting bad quality OSS roofs - My pain today/Audis tomorrow

Hi guys

My OpenSky broke with a snap and I visited the audishop (Stockholm, Sweden) I bought the -04 A2 five years ago at this shop hoping for a goodwill repair. After spending 250£ on troubleshooting and then the shop applied for goodwill repair to Audi centally but sorry to say it was denied. Also they could see the OSS need the "large repair" kit meaning the entire frame needed to be changed and not just the cables "small repair". The bill for this would be 3500£ so the recommendation from Audi was not to fix the roof because the amount exceeded the car value by more than half (6000£).
Nice work of Audi mounting bad quality glassroof. So now my A2 -04 is not worth the 6000£ but only 3000£ if I would sell it to Audi. As they said to me they don't want a broken OSS in there salesroom and would resell the car to some unauthorized dealer. What a lose buying the car for 12500£ and now its only worth 3000£ 5 years later - thanks alot Audi.

Anders, you should try rimmer in Germany to see if they can help. A bit of a trip but would double the value of your car overnight.

Good luck with what you end up doing.

Cheers

My pain is going away thanks to Audi (lots of goodwill)

Hi guys

You may notice I signed up to A2OC from the start when I bought my A2 2006. I haven't been much of a social guy but have over years picked up lots of good tips and tricks for my A2. The recent tip about 100% goodwill on OpenSky repears which paid off today. Yes this is correct! They did a U-turn and have promised 100% goodwill. So I of course must turn around and say THANK YOU Audi.

BR, Anders

p.s. are audi monitoring theses forums?

Chris has not replied yet, but have spoken to Audi Stafford today. They'd need £80 for diagnosing the problem, then depending on the outcome it could be repaired for under £500, or if irreparable it would cost around £1700 to hire the Audi jig and replace the whole roof unit. When mentioning Audi goodwill, he said that it didn't look like it would be covered even if my car is <10yr old + FASH. I'll try and get in touch with Chris first though in the hope he will know more information.

It's bewildering that Worthing Audi are able to get these goodwill repairs done and not others? What does Chris know that the others don't? Or do the others just not care?

It's a case of 'computer says yes'
If you enter the correct sequence you are given access to the secret level whereby Audi AG pays for the sunroof. Only Chris knows the correct sequence (and it has something to do with a few minor alterations about mileage and service history)

I know I'm on the sharp end of this.....as I went to Amersham Audi within the time, and was 3 days too late for Caffyns to help. Currently battling with Audi UK to pay up.
Wish me luck...

Hi Jason - argh, so at the moment they won't pay even though you initially made the enquiry through another Audi dealership? Nightmare - fingers crossed for you.

I've just had a thought; I wonder what they do with the old roofs they've replaced? Sometimes the factory/Audi UK want the old parts back, often they're just binned.

Ditto, I would be very interested in acquiring one for experimental purposes before attempting a repair on my own, or even repairing one to replace mine with. I may just drop chris at Worthing another email!

I had my OSS done at Worthing early in June which saved me a trip to Rinners in Bad Tolz especially as its only 73 miles instead of 700 to southern Germany. I was so glad getting it replaced as I use it virtually every day now:cool:.
Good to hear you two guys are booked in to get yours done. Worthing Audi should get an award for customer service:)

My OSS was done at Worthing last week and I am very pleased with the result :).

They have replaced the older single-cycle OSS motor with the dual-cycle start/stop motor where the sunroof lifts up and stops, then you hold the button again and it slides all the way back. It's much quieter and smoother opening than the old one too, meaning I really should have had the previous one greased properly!

Also had a nice Audi A1 courtesy car to test-drive all week while it was being done, however my A2 still has better fuel economy :)

I think Worthing Audi are doing these at the rate of one a week. Mine went in on Tuesday 3rd October. Suspect I had the same very nice A1 courtesy car, a fully loaded silver 1.4 petrol one with about 6k on the clock.

I've also now got the dual cycle OSS motor. Everything seems to have been replaced apart from the pop-up air deflector. Just a guess, but I wonder if Worthing are happy to keep churning these replacements out as they've got the required jig and it's a good earner as they bill Audi UK for the work?

I haven't open mine yet, I'm just far too paranoid having had two go but I'll have to find out if I have the dual cycle too. Is it a new motor or just a software update? Either way I like the sound of it
Alas I'm going to have to go back, I'm getting lots of noise with it closed (and a couple of other things) but I'm hopeful a wee tweak of adjustment will remedy :(

As much as the roof has roof has caused me problems, getting it back and having a full moon shine through it on a clear night reminds me why I got it :)

Hey guys,

My dad has an a2 with brokensky, I've been waiting for two months to get a response from worthing audi to do it, when I spoke to them this week they said to expect to wait three months from now for it to be done, I said I'll call back after Xmas to see what's happening, did any of you have to wait this kind of time? Chris the guy that organised the repairs left a while ago and it seems like they've basically stopped taking the work on, who have you been dealing with there?

Cheers

John

My booking was a while in advance, probably six weeks.
I initially dealt with Chris Smith (typical the chap that sorts it leaves), was checked in by Sorry I can't Remember-Hername and collected the car from Michael Adams. Paul Gilbert is the service manager.
Maybe there is a supply issue with the parts?
Would the delay put the car outside of the ten year period?

Just looking at the invoice now dated 29.09...I've done 2500 miles since then :O

Wonder where Chris Smith has moved to - possibly worth trying to track him down as he was seemingly pretty clued up as to how to get the OSS repairs through the Audi Warranty system?
Let's hope Worthing keep up the work on replacing NOSS's going forward.
