Black Mambo TDi75

First test drive just now (rear brake stuck solid so delayed), all seems good!

No leaks or clonks or bangs.

Gear shift is awesome smooth and new clutch bites low down, feels really nice.

Tomorrow will wash it in and out, as weeks with boot open and windows down hasn't done it any favours!
 
Sad news tonight, I can hear the dreaded turbo siren. A kind of deep intake whistle like if you whistled yourself by sucking air in. So my gamble hasn't paid off, so frustrating given the engine was sat right there and the turbo waving at me!

So close to quitting now it's unreal.

Awww Ed, is this the first time you’ve taken the car for a run? Are you sure it’s not just a turbo pipe has popped off that perhaps wasn’t on 100% when the engine was refitted.

It was on the engine I bought second hand, it wasn't making that noise when I did so no one knew or had cause for concern. Bit odd.

I've done about 20 miles so far, I'll definitely find tine to climb underneath yet again and check the pipes. I will have to drive it to work for at least three days thought first (220 miles) so hope it hangs in there. Drives with boost and vcds says expected boost vs actual it's only just behind 10 millibar or so.

Have you listened to the video, what do you think of the noise?
 
My sister’s PD130 Touran makes exactly the same noise and has done for 20k miles - for sure you should check the turbo carefully but are you sure it needs to be change s urgently?

Definitely something wrong with turbo, the high pitch noise is like a toy jet plane and power is not there really. Not limping but the sound is not right. Hopefully can get under car soon again. Love being under there.
 
Just been out and slid under the thing, oil blowing out the outlet charge pipe fitting area so tightened it up lots, it wasn't loose just sensible as a jubilee clip as always on there. Should it be spring clip as access is pants? Think my atl had spring clip...

Either way oil coming out and dripping down the pipes so either pipe was too loose or the turbo shaft "seals" or end plates as they're known are letting oil past and worn out, might explain jet noise as that could be enough play to touch the impeller on the casing of the turbo under load.

The noise still there after tightening so turbo is cooked..

Oh man after having engine sat on my drive for 6 weeks. I could shoot myself for ot just changing it.

So engine out again and turbo off then, unless anyone thinks os drive shaft off, inlet manifold off and tilting engine is enough to struggle it off?

Or anyone want to buy it and put a turbo on it?? Honda jazz looking very appealing right now.....
 
Such a shame that we weren’t able to check the turbo in the garage. Certainly didn’t sound to be making that noise when we revved it up. You definitely don’t need to take the engine out to change the turbo!

Thanks steve, yeah I definitely was listening for it I was keen to check it ut there we go, at the end of the day still a bargain and I have a spare old turbo to send off. Be like a new car by time I've finished!! I've just got to finish it now wether I keep it or not.
 
Keep the chin up Edd. You've done so much to save this car that would have been in the scrap heap if it wasn't for your efforts.
Also loving the updates
