From what I've heard/read about the FSi, you need a light right foot to obtain decent MPG. If you boot it everywhere, the figure will drop drastically - you need the smooth aproach.

Rob,

I agree with you. Short experiments with my DIS show that light acceleration in short bursts improves the mpg dramatically. I also accept that the car isn't fully run in, and that it may improve over time.

TBH, I'm getting the same mileage on a full tank in my A2 than I was in my 1.8L focus, and the A2's tank is some 13l smaller!

Thanks for your input, Rob.

I have averaged 48mpg overall in 6,900 miles from new in a 1.6 FSI - see my input in archived topic 'running in period for 1.6 FSI' for more details.

Thanks unipower, I'll check it out!

Alex

Hrmm, maybe I need to get it checked out, and it hasn't run 2400 miles, it has run 24000 miles, my bad..anyways, After doing a bit of re-calculating, it seems that maybe it's doing 35 MPG..and nope, there is no problem with the engine I think, just the usual rattles which seems to be spreading like wildfire in the car, last thing to start getting noise is the door on the driver's side...

Just returned from the SOUTH and got 66.7 at a steady genuine 70 mph.
Covered 21k now in my TDI and it took the first year to re-educate my right foot to drive a diesel. There is definitely a technique involved to travel rapidly and maximise fuel usage.
Overall mpg is currently 59.
