Today I.....

Bulbs used to be so easy to change. Modern car handbooks advise you to consult the dealer now.?

Actually Dave the Touran’s handbook doesn’t - it just says “turn the bulb anti-clockwise and pull it out of the headlamp” and then “insert the new bulb into the headlamp and twist clockwise” in a very Haynes-like fashion, completely ignoring the fact that there’s no access and only the most determined and hands-on owner with midget fingers is going to persevere until it’s done.

I just don’t get why, when carrying spare bulbs is a legal requirement on the continent, VW didn’t pay more attention to keeping tasks like this easy - it should be straightforward to do in the dark with no tools!

Could be the next thing VW have a class action lawsuit for ...

They really got changing the bulbs right on the Volvo C30/S40/V50/C70 model range first introduced in 2004. Pull out one tent-peg-like rod at the back of the headlight, squeeze and unclip one connector and remove the entire unit, take it somewhere warm and dry to change the bulbs in comfort. The C70 is only car I've had where it was easier than it is on the A2.

VW seems to have learned from Volvo when making Tuareg... it's copy paste of the tent-peg ?

Today I... met a new A2 owner here in south/east of Norway,. He had a beautiful red Storm, very well maintained and leader/alcantra seats....oohhhh.

He sold me a very descent prized headlamp, which will bring me one step closer to be able to pass MoT with my commuter ?

I hope he will join the Forum... :)

Today I took my A2 in for a Mot it wasn't due to the 4th Dec but with Lockdown 2.0 I thought I should get it done. I was not allowed to wait so spent an hour walking and going through all the expectant father emotions, until I got the call to collect my newly MoT'ed A2 and without any advisories.

Today I am mostly pi**ed off!

I posted a week or so ago, with pure excitement, that I had bought a darkside developments stainless steel down pipe...

not going to moan (much) but it doesn’t fit!!!
Perfect where it bolts into the turbo but not so perfect where I would’ve had to have cut the floor out to make it fit!!
it was at least a good 50mm out!! ?
So, day spent at the garage only to have to refit the old, already welded by previous cowboys, down pipe.

not a happy chappy!

After Mondays unexpected failure re 1 brake hose my A2 passed today - 2 front brakes hoses & brake fluid change and wallet £261 lighter - ouch! Given the low miles this year I dare not look at my s/s and the cost per mile.

PS to be fair, over 15 years hardly anything has gone wrong. Just had to change what I call serviceable items.

Today I swapped to pepper pots.
Just for the winter.

Put my recently purchased bargin A2 though the MOT....... fail on steering rack end (been an advisory at least twice). Part ordered for £30ish and ill fit over the weekend. Advisory on a wobbly heat shield. Back axle in good nick unlike another sad A2 in the lot awaiting "a decision" :-(

....sad to hear
Luckily, this issue is soon fixed... then you can archive it in the Lessons Learned section and leave it there ?

Do you have some pictures to share ? and perhaps add some experience here in this downpipe tread? I'm working on several downpipe ideas and just bought a lighter TIG equipment and starting to get used to it. My goal is to make several different designs and find the best one trough testing.
But it goes slow with me....
Your experience and feedback from the Darkside one would be a good start and interesting for others than me too, I'm shore ?
I will hope....?

cheers

ive attached some pics. The quality of the pipe itself was top class. 2.5” with a smaller section at the end for standard exhaust, and no CAT (not needed for MOT).
I really was hoping for something off the shelf and I’m sure a lot of other owners would also be interested

You can see from the pic of the exhausts side by side that the darkside one is a different angle which threw the exhaust out by around 50mm.
The hangers were very long also
Darkside were very quick in getting the exhaust collected from me, no problems with a refund.
Just a wasted day

I wonder if it’s for a Polo/Fabia and they gave it listed as fitting the A2 too? Have you been in contact with them?
