Today I.....

That's another MOT pass for my Crystal TDI ... almost clean, only one advisory for slight brake disc scoring. He did say it's very slight, but he basically had to cover his backside and advise it. Minor service also done and we're all good to go for another year.

And a pass for me too

When I took the wheels off to give them a thorough clean, one of the lugs on one of the hubcaps broke. As mine are in very good condition and used ones so expensive, they are too good to loose. So today I fixed it with superglue and glue gun glue stick.

It's not quite as flexible as the others. Let's hope it works. Note: the ring is yet to be replaced. I've yet to investigate whether it's possible to get glue sticks that are a bit flexible.

Unfortunately this is a job too far for me to remove, I have had a go in the past and gave up after about 1hr, it really isn't worth the hassle to be honest.
Just arrived.
Cheers Stan

Today I..... learned that to buy a car without checking it first can end up with a lot of hassle....
I crashed wife' car and had to buy one while repairing her BHC.
Silver is the standard colour in our family and it will have to be an AMF or BHC...
80% petrol A2s over here so there is in average 1 per month advertised within1 day drive radius
So when one 2001 silver AMF (ultra low spec) came up after two weeks, I simply bought it.. it was though a reason for it to be cheap... had not been used for the last 3 years... When I asked the owner "what's wrong with the car?" he replayed with: "Battery should probably be changed"
Here is what I have found (until now):
Undertray crushed/broken, fuel cooler crushed, not one single heatshield in place, number plate illumination with broken loom and connectors corroded away, fuel filter and air filter the worst I have seen, oil and filter really bad, battery gone and measured a discharge/drain of 0.78A, alternator producing 11.88V and lower alternator bolt broken, air filter box with two broken brackets, drivers window not working, mirrors adjustment not working, downpipe flex severely leaking, engine warning light disabled or defect, clutch severely worn, tire repair set outdated 2006,

....and when I stripped the driverside front brake parts I noticed that the upper calliper slide pin were spinning in the hub... treads in the hub wasn't there any longer (long live the Helicoil)
That's when I had to take a break, spend some time on the Forum and collect motivation before getting out again and hopefully fixing the broken threads :)
I have managed to fix the above listed issues except from the discharge/drain of 0.78A with the key out. What is an acceptable value?
We will try to get a MOT appointment on Monday... fingers crossed :)

What a bargain :)

Cheers and have a fine weekend !!

You'll Love it even more when you have fixed it.
Stick at it.

Picked up and drove my near 290k AMF after the MOT and fitting of the set of injectors I picked up from another local member just at the start of lockdown and sent for refurb at Darwen Diesels this summer. I've commented before that the originals were probably exhibiting signs of wear including occasional drips of fuel left in the engine before starting up (causing a couple of seconds of revving on starts). These had been fitted along with a new rocker cover and loom (and all new injector stretch bolts etc.) and then all put back together following the recommended adjustment procedure. Obviously very unscientific, but first impressions are that there has been a gain of mid-range power, and secondly that I am seeing instant economy numbers on the miniDIS that I've never seen before with this car - possibly as a result of better injection quantity control and mixture aerosol generation. I will wait and see and check it on fuelly over the next few weeks although obviously the weather is getting colder.
Having driven the AMF car on my normal commute and whatnot yesterday and today I now have proof via my seat dyno - out of a few local junctions and the dual carriageway - that there is infinitely more punch in 2nd and 3rd gears (actually, in all gears but not as evident) than there has been as long as I've had the car - there is enough pull when you really floor it in 2nd to get my mobile phone falling out of the cubby hole above the ashtray. This car has never done that, unlike my BHC-engined car (both have a map on them, but my BHC car has always felt punchier, not surprisingly on 147k vs 290k). Quite incredible how much of a change has been made, and I am really chuffed to pieces - and also a bit surprised - how much of an effect fitting these refurbed injectors has made without anything else being done. Now I just have to wait a wee while to do a full tank of fuel or two to determine the effect on overall economy.

Today I made an impulse purchase….

It’s a genuine VAG brand new (not reconditioned) part- I’m pretty chuffed as this means Audrey is well and truly future-proofed now, with the last major component that could go wrong now covered.

Next time the car goes to DS Motorsport for any work I will get them to fit it, last time they had the car they noted slight wear on the turbo. Not surprising at almost 150k miles….

Is it the LHD version from eBay?

Is it worth considering having the manifold section ceramic coated prior to fitting ?

Today I.... was reminded that our lovely A2s actually has M9 calliper glide pins.... and not M8 as I thought to remember....
So what I expected to be a plain forward Helicoil repair of M8 ended up taking hours ....
Now I have added "slide bolts" are M9 to my little yellow book, and I have ordered M9 helicoil set...
Lessons Learned ;)
Cheers

Mine's A little Blue book. ?

Today I took Gracie up to Stafford Services Travelodge, along the way picking up some gear selector cables from a guy in one of the FB groups (look decent to me) and a reconditioned MYP gearbox from @andrewgeorge (thoroughly nice chap). So I’m all ready to check into WOM tomorrow for my MYP conversion…. Fingers crossed!

I recommend changing the gear stick to a TT aluminium one, made the gear change feel much better.

On another note, is anyone going to WOM via Bristol soon?
