Today I.....

I recommend changing the gear stick to a TT aluminium one, made the gear change feel much better.

Sent from the future
not thought yet about what to do about the gear stick. I rather like the sound of that, however given it’s strictly my wife’s car now she might not approve so much…

Today I put the battery that's been on a trickle charge back in along with the tool kit boxes, back boot panel and the Ariel booster unit I got from @Clackers and the info from this brilliant forum. I now have a working radio as well as the CD. ??. Small job done the bigger work still to start.

@CMD - as you can read in #10784, it is vise to do a longish test drive ;) congratulations and good luck with your new car ?
Cheers

Today I.... got "almost" through the MOT with the recently bought AMF A2.
With reference to what I wrote in #10784 it was not a big surprise to me that there were findings...
This A2 did not have plates when I bought it and I have not been able to test drive the car.
The tester found slack in the wiper motor arm, no number plate illumination (fuse melted on the way to the test) and engine warning lamp failure.
So tomorrow we will pass the re-test ;)

Buuuut, I was shocked to find out that to be able to collect my new number plates (ordered 3 weeks ago...) I will have to wait for 11 days to have a slot at the officials... not exactly impressive service from them...
I hope it is not like this in your area :)
Cheers

@PlasticMac and I disagree on this but Millers Diesel Power Ecomax should give you a similar effect (cleaning additive package and a bump in cetane) for only a two to three pence per litre on top of the cost of supermarket fuel (albeit Shell I would suggest would be the superior product overall). There’s a thread on this in the fuels section.

Also a number of people on here swear by adding two stroke oil to the fuel, (@DJ 190 and @timmus are two that come to mind). I understand that has detergents in it too although no additional cetane of course.
I also use 2 stroke oil but I was advised that it's got to be the right specification - semi-synthetic and API TC + ISO L-EGC + JASO FC.

I have put 400ml into Akoya’s tank this week when the needle was indicating just below full - I must say I haven’t noticed any difference yet in the 30 miles I’ve done since other than perhaps a slightly quieter engine at idle - although that could be a placebo effect.

Today I fitted my new pepperpots! Well I’m being a bit economical with the truth there as I failed at the first trying to get the old wheels off, my torque wrench wasn’t up to the job, or I need to go down the gym more. So I copped out and took Gracie down to the place I’d visited with the Polo in the morning and he put them on for me. Got to say I’m absolutely blown away by how much they improve the ride, it’s gone from being pretty noisy and crashy to very absorbent, it manages the worst bumps in Surrey’s lousy roads smoothly and quietly. And they look mint too… here’s a photo, apologies for Gracie looking rather grubby, they do rather suit her though ?

In case anyone’s interested, I’ll be putting my old 16” SE wheels up for sale in the next few days. They’re in very decent condition.

Evening Malcolm,

Looks fantastic doesn’t it. I really do like the Pepperpots myself. Such a comfortable ride whilst saving a little weight.

Enjoy both your recent transformations with this terrific A2.

Kind regards,

Tom

A3 I believe. Though IMHO they suit the A2 far better
I have a set on the fizzy….. they really are a better ride than the 9 spoke wheels on the 1.4 petrol. Was going to swap them onto the 1.4….. but, if the wife finds how good they are I will lose them.

The black centre caps match the colour storm perfectly. Gracie looks a picture sir ?

I’ll be swapping onto my winters very shortly which means Tonka will be on Pepperpots for the first time. I can’t wait to see the difference in rude and handling tbf

Suit the colour scheme well.

In future, it’s best not to use a torque wrench to undo wheel bolts. It’s used to tighten something to a specified pressure. Using it to break bolts off will damage the calibration.

Best to invest in a breaker bar such as this which can be attached to a socket ?

Evening all,

Today I…. am very happy. I have finally obtained the correct Slip Ring to continue the Heated MFSW venture:
9A4597DD-7AE5-4EC8-ADA3-2D86EA7CA944.jpeg

It is the AL Revision which was also superseded by the Q Revision. This great little AL item will do just fine though and was found on eBay.de which our friend Rick @Rickmeister assisted with. Thank you so much Rick, legend!

I can see a massive difference already by it having thick copper tracks inside which will take the current. Really happy with this.

Here’s the rear:

On the rear it has an additional 2 pin socket which has been missing in my previous trials:

It also has the maximum about if pins for a future project but for now it’ll just be for the MFSW buttons:

Warm fingers crossed I have this fitted and working with my prototype heated steering wheel in no time.

A factory heated steering wheel is also on route so I’m only utilising VAG parts.

Kind regards,

Tom
