My A2 "Top spec" project (AKA my Holy Grail)

A wrap will cost between £1000 & £2000 that's how much my employers paid to get their pool cars done. I have been tempted by wrapping my A2, the advantages are that it will hide any scratches you have and as you said it can easily be me removed. I am toying with the idea of wrapping the roof of my A2 in matt black as I like the colour contrast of the black opensky and silver body .

Thanks for that,

yes, the black opensky just seems to look right on a light coloured A2 and so I am a fan of the black roof for silver, yellow and white A2s !!

I like the idea of a Lamborghini colour! Pearl Orange or Pearl White!

Weigh up the cost of a repaint v wrap. If you are going to keep the A2 forever as i am sure you will, i would get it repainted. If you change your mind in the future, have it wrapped over! :D

Thanks for that,

I really like both, but there is something about the white that just looks more "classy" if you know what I mean (Classy is the wring word but I couldn't think of another one)

Yes! I also think that white looks very classy! Not too much pearl and not too in your face white!

Lambo Orange may be a bit too wild for an A2? :)

If you could buy a brand new A2 today to replace that A1 - what colour would you be likely to choose?

Do you want the most special / the most individual / the most show stopping/ or the most personal car to your own taste.

With OE standard already stated as a preference there isn't that many 'ordinary' choices really. And while many colours from the era remain available it's a decade old palate we are looking at.

As the car is an 03, my own leanings if I was to stray from the standard 'brouchure' selections would be to research what 'lifestyle' colours were popular when the donor car was registered to assure that the end result was plausible when the car rolled off the factory floor.

Final bit of sticking neb in from me would be to comment on the potential 2k price tag for a wrap. If that's accurate it seems an incredible waste of money for a temporary finish. I'd be inclined to invest in a full strip down paint job and be done with it. Once you've selected your colour or course! :p

PS - thanks a lot to Steve for allowing us to share in his 'holy grail' build. This'll be a really interesting thread I'm sure and a bit easier to document now Ben has updated the multiple image upload problem we were experiencing!

I would have exactly the same problem, but I would probably favour black, but only because the car would be just another new car and not exclusive in any way and so it would be less important for it to "stand out".

But since I am going all out on this A2 it needs to stand out and so even though black is definitely my favourite, it is not going to stand out as much.
By the time I have finished spending it will have cost me mega bucks, so just using a "normal" colour simply doesn't seem right (even though it would be my preferred colour).

White is a very close favourite to black for me and it comes with the advantage of being more rare and actually looking great, so today it is white, tomorrow ?????? Who knows.

I used to be indecisive, now I am not so sure!!!

It is now
1st Crystal Black
2nd Pearlescent White

That black is cool, different, but still BLACK !!!!!!!

Here we go again!

I was not planning on the respray for a while to give me chance to decide on the colour, but I am not sure how much more of this constant changing my mind I can take.

The suggestions I am getting are great and helping me a lot, I think I will have to set myself a target when I will decide and then stick to that.

So I will set the target date at the date we exchange contracts on the house (Hopefully next week) and so when that happens, whatever is my preference is IT!!!

The Crystal Black looks like it has a very similar flake to Daytona Grey.

It bet it looks stunning in the sun! Just like Daytona does!

Agreed. I first saw Daytona on an A7 in the showroom and new straight away that this was going to be the choice when I ordered the Q5. It has that glossy 'wet look' in the sun. The crystal panther black looks lovely in the pictures and if it appears to change shade depending on how the light reflects that'll be very special indeed. 'In the flesh' its likely far more striking than the photos do it justice.

Double plus is that the car remains your favoured black too. Audi exclusive finish is another 2 or 3k on the price tag isn't it? Might be worth a bit of research on whether this paint costs more than 'standard' paint to buy and what availability is like. Can it just be mixed to order like any other shade from a paint supplier and I wonder if there would be any difference in the process to apply it?

I'm sure Steve will have this covered by the place doing his custom jobs over the years ;)

The house sale finally exchanged today!!!!

That means that within one week I will finally have the funds to enable me to collect the car and pay the very patient people who have been a huge help by hanging on to parts for me.

Tom (Timmus) for the car and all of the long list of mods he has already carried out
David, for extreme patience hanging on to the 6 speed conversion kit
Jason for the seats (all SIX of them) and the heated seat looms and Climate panel with the heated switches in.

Without you guys (and others on here) my project would be MONTHS behind and I would now just be starting the search for the car and other rare parts.

Hoping to pick the car up as soon as Tom is ready.

Then the project moves into the next phase of mods.

I need to book Vince (Stealth) for the fitting of the 6 speed conversion and a remap.
Then I need to tell HazyDaze when I want the MFSW and RNS E job to be carried out.

So plenty to do, update again soon.

Glad to hear your house exchange Came thru steve:)

Well,at least you can move forward (full speed) with your project now. lol
By the way does that mean a colour decision has been made,as if I'm correct you said once the house sale goes through its decision time.??

All the best

Money no object.... i'd love to go for the polished aluminium look (that isn't me in the pic!):

...it emphasises the whole design ethos of the car and harks back to the silver arrows of Auto Union....

...failing that it would have to be the latest black used by Audi....

....or white...

.....errrrrr

Simon.

This can be achieve by wrapping the car, I can only assume that parts of the car in the picture were either wrapped or had panels specially made in aluminium, because many of the parts on the A2 body are plastic !!!
